Size of the flap
The flap is 23.5 cm wide at its widest point and 23.1 cm high. The leather edging strip on the inside of the flap is approx. 2 cm wide, which means the "exposed" area with fabric is approx. 19.5 cm x 18.7 cm. 

Variants
Choose from many different leathers, such as smooth leather or grained leather from the standard collection or different leathers from our past favorites. You can also add metal details, rivets or trapunto as usual.

Note: Tools, base coat and glue are not included in this DIY box as you can reuse them from the DIY box of the whole bag (which we assume you have if you purchase a flap).

Personalization options

You have the option of applying various personalizations to the swap flap. Choose between an eye-catching metal part, the trapunto technique or use pocket patches and rivets to customize your flap.

Trapunto technology

In this process, shapes made of leather fiber fabric are glued between the leather and the lining and shaped against a solid base with an edge shaper. The result is a raised 3D effect that is more striking than the embossing due to the letter height of 6 cm.

The technique is implemented by yourself (video tutorial available) and is best realized with our smooth leather or another thinner leather.

Here you choose:

  • Prefabricated letters or motifs with a height of 6 cm
  • Alternative material in one piece to create your own patterns and shapes

How does it work?

Our DIY box is designed so that you can make your flap without any prior knowledge of leather crafts. All the materials you need are included in the DIY box, so you don't have to buy anything extra. 

The highlight of our DIY boxes:

The parts are already cut and provided with holes for sewing. This means we can guarantee that everything fits together perfectly and that you can sew the flap by hand without any effort. For the metal accessories, we also make sure that we only use parts that can be attached without special machines and are still securely fastened.

As soon as you have put together your DIY box, you will receive an email from us with the order confirmation and access to the instructions and basic videos. You can then watch these in advance or when your DIY box arrives. And then you can get started!

An important note: 

This DIY project is perfect for you if you like trying out new things and generally have a certain affinity for DIY and handicrafts. You don't have to be particularly skilled, but you should still enjoy making things yourself and be willing to learn new techniques.

How long does production take?

As a rough guide, the exchange flap for the saddle bag takes approx. 1 to 1.5 hours to make (including drying time for the edge color). If you have never made a bag before and are watching the instructions and videos for the first time, it may take a little longer.

Sounds long? 

And it is! But in the end, that's what distinguishes handmade items from fast fashion. Many of our customers say that they have a completely different appreciation for their handmade products and are incredibly proud to own a 100% individual and handmade handbag. And beware: danger of addiction!

So if you want some me-time, a balance to your everyday life or some creative time with friends and you enjoy learning new techniques, then the time will fly by. You can also split up the steps really easily. Another advantage: the production doesn't take up much space and you can pack and unpack your DIY box whenever you have time. 

Where do the leather and other materials come from?

The leather in our standard collection comes from a tannery in Veneto that has been working with leather for more than 20 years and supplies many well-known luxury leather goods labels. Using innovative methods, particularly in the area of water treatment and resource-saving techniques, the tannery combines traditional craftsmanship with modern expertise.

The leathers in our Special Editions mostly come from surplus sales from Tuscany or are our own productions that we have commissioned from Italian tanneries. Overhang sales are leftover stock from large luxury leather goods labels that no longer want to use these leathers as they work with seasonal collections. The leathers are carefully selected by us on site so that we can also offer very good quality and great special features. Treasure hunt, next level!

The other materials such as metal accessories, webbing and other supplementary items come from suppliers in the leather processing industry. We source these from all over the world, but in particular from Italy, Spain, Portugal, China and France, depending on where we find the best product for your DIY box.
